The Hobbit - Fix-It Fest

Let's face it, the majority of us at least know what's coming in the third and final installment of The Hobbit movies this December. Even with all the changes made and liberties taken by Jackson, we know how the story is going to end.

To prepare for this and attempt to stockpile as much comfort and fluff as possible between now and December, I decided to create a Community dedicated to Fix-It stories and artwork.

Specifically I'm trying to track down the guitar tablature book for Robin Bullock's "A Guitar for Christmas".

My brother has been looking for it for almost a year, and with his birthday coming up it would be beyond fantastic to be able to gift it to him, but it's no longer in production and I have had ZERO luck tracking down a copy.

"This provision allows Monsanto and other companies to ignore existing food safety rules, and continue selling genetically modified seeds even if a court has blocked them from doing so.

Even worse is how this shameful giveaway became law. It was inserted anonymously and without review or debate into the must-pass budget bill to avoid government shutdown in March.

Our system of ensuring the safety of genetically modified foods is already insufficient, and wrought with industry influence. The FDA and USDA routinely approve foods without sufficient review, and often rely on shoddy industry-generated studies to determine the safety of GMO foods.

The courts provide a vital check to allow us to challenge approvals that were conducted too hastily – as when federal courts found the USDA’s 2009 approval of Monsanto’s GMO sugar beets to have been based on an insufficient review.

But the Monsanto Protection Act strips the courts of the power to halt seed sales, and actually compels the USDA to approve products whose approval the courts have challenged. It’s so outrageous, the USDA says the provision might not be enforceable.

Now our legislators have an opportunity to undo this appalling act of putting special interests like Monsanto ahead of our health and the safety of our food. Urge the Senate to take action now."

Bilbo Baggins was reborn as John Watson, and remembered who he was just before he was invalided home to join up with Sherlock Holmes, possibly due to the wound that got him invalided home (whole life flashing before his eyes, only it isn't the right life?).

Sherlock Holmes is either Smaug or Sauron, and he has no idea who he used to be.

Where this whole thing hits a snag, however, is that Thorin Oakensheld was reborn as Sebastian Moran, and he remembers everything too.

He's never met John Watson face to face, and so doesn't know that the man he's been contracted to kill was once the love of his life. Then the two of them meet and everything changes.

The night is ridiculously cold, and Dwalin is nearly freezing his arse of. So he decide that the best and most sensible thing is to do something he has not done since he was much, much younger. And that is to sneak under the covers with Balin.

Balin is not to happy at having a freezing cold younger brother curling himself around him, and they begin to bicker like a pair of much younger dwarfs.

The two of them manage to wake up the rest of the company.

This is SO fucking wrong :( And it gets worse every time something like that is posted... I doubt, there will be much downloads anymore after this... and that literally "blocks" non-us citizens for watching tv-shows :(

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Tony finds it hilarious that the general consensus is that Iron Man’s the dangerous one, and that Tony Stark is the fool... What no one seems to fucking remember is that Tony Stark created that damned armor. Iron Man would be less than nothing – literally – without Tony and his genius. Leave Tony alone, however, with access to a half-decent workshop (or a dry cave in the middle of nowhere) and he’ll revolutionize the world.

Or Tony is (over) protective and doesn't give a damn.

On April 26, the U.S. House of Representatives passed CISPA - the Cybersecurity Information Sharing and Protection Act - by a vote of 248-168. CISPA now goes to the Senate.

CISPA gives the government, including military spy agencies like the National Security Agency (NSA), virtually unlimited powers to capture our personal information — medical records, private emails, financial information — all without a warrant or proper oversight.

CISPA can no longer be called a cybersecurity bill at all. The government would be able to search information it collects under CISPA for the purposes of investigating American citizens with complete immunity from all privacy protections as long as they can claim someone committed a "cybersecurity crime". Basically it says the 4th Amendment does not apply online, at all. Moreover, the government could do whatever it wants with the data as long as it can claim that someone was in danger of bodily harm, or that children were somehow threatened—again, notwithstanding absolutely any other law that would normally limit the government's power.

Civil liberties groups and progressives unanimously opposed the bill. President Obama warned the House that he will veto the bill because it does not protect our privacy, but they ignored his warnings.

OK, not completely perfect, as I had to go into work this morning. But this afternoon was spent at the Emerald City Comicon (where I saw and got the autograph of Kevin Conroy) and this evening I've been enjoying the music of the Count Basie Orchestra (who did a phenomenal job). I may have a something of a crush on their bari sax player - 40 years with the Orchestra and man can PLAY!

I will be going to sleep a very happy camper tonight ;-)
